Palisades Ultra - Grizzly 50 Miler - 7/2024
I have always thought of myself as a man of action, not words. Anyone who knows me in real life probably feels this way about me. When I get excited about something, I start to talk about it, and if I’m talking about something it’s because I’m working through a plan on how to do it. Very rarely do I just talk about something.
My wife knows first hand just how dangerous it is to take me to “look at cars” if I’ve been talking about something specific :)

Ultramarathon, here I come!
Background and Motivation I’ve run a ton of half marathons. At the time I thought it was crazy to run a regular marathon. While training for the marathon I ran in December, approaching my training peak, I was running 10 minute miles for 20 miles.
That was a pretty cool feat.
I can’t remember if I wrote this in my other blog post, but the entire reason I ran a marathon was so that I would have at least 1 completed race at each distance up to ultramarathon.

New blog, who dis?
New Blog, Who Dis? To be totally honest, this entire thing came about because I could not remember what all needed to be installed to get jekyll working on a new laptop to write posts. I was tired of fighting ruby gem install issues. Ultimately I wanted a platform to write posts that was not in the way, it just enabled me to write content more easily. I already have plenty reasons NOT to write posts ha ha ha.

Hamming Distance Revisited
I already solved this a long time ago in python. I haven’t had a lot of personal time in general to blog. I’ve been writing down fun ideas for posts, and believe me, I have a TON in the works but unfortunately I don’t have much finished material to release yet.
Better Content? As part of a cleanup effort of my backup drive, I’ve been merging, and deleting repos, and files as I consolidate things.

OE Defense - RWR Series Results 2023
Background I’ve been excited about doing a run and gun for a while. I started looking into them in 2022, but I wasn’t sure how to get involved. There are not that many events, there are a small number of slots, and they sell out extremely quick. I have a strong background in a running, although I am just getting back into it. The practicality of what run and guns provide in terms of being able to shoot effectively made it an attractive package to me.

Brazos Bend Results (Marathon)
The Brazos Bend 100!! This run was hosted by Trail Racing Over Texas, with distances ranging from half marathon to 100 miles. I chose to do the full marathon since i’ve never completed one officially before.
I had been planning to run the full marathon in Long Beach, CA for my 30th birthday, but life got in the way. Eventually a lot of life got in the way, and i had 2 kids.

2022 Retrospective
A Year of Lessons I learned a lot this year. I think my biggest takeaway from 2022 is that there is no clear cut good or bad. Being happy in life is about finding the best balance in tradeoffs from your choices, making sure you always put your family first.
I started 2022 in the depths of one of the worst burnouts i’ve experienced in my entire career. I honestly felt quite trapped, and was unsure how to go about fixing how I felt.

Auto Deploying My Blog
I wanted to write on my blog without it being intrusive. I really wanted to make sure things were as easy as possible, required essentially no maintenance, and all i had to do was write about things I was interested in or working and then click a button or commit and it would deploy.
I’ve been spending a fair amount of time doing dev ops things for the last year and have been really enjoying containerized architecture.

Physical imbalances
Alright, I’m ready to admit it; I have a problem. Something along the chain of my right foot, ankle, knee, quad, hip, low back is broken. Maybe everything in that chain is broken, and as much as I thought regular exercise would just make it better, it’s not. I need to formulate a plan to diagnose, and treat this issue.
The biggest hurdle with diagnosing, and fixing an issue like this is that healthcare in the United States is based around treating injuries, and their symptoms.
